We have some really great news on the Stephanie front.
We had our ARD meeting at Central High School today. To preface that, let me state that we got the report from the autism specialist from the school district yesterday, and Keller ISD has finally agreed that Stephanie is autistic!! Yes!
I almost cried when I read the report. I did get a little teary-eyed.
So, today, we went into the ARD meeting with our "guns" fully loaded, ready to fight for what we thought was best for Steph.
We didn't get to fight. When we walked into the room, I noticed right off the bat that the teacher for the STARS program at Keller High was in the room. That got my hopes up very quickly. This is a program specifically geared for high-functioning autistic kids.
The first report was from the psychologist who did an emotional study on Steph. She handed it off to the autism team leader, who quickly went over the stuff that was in our report and proceeded to recommend the STARS program for Stephanie. Christi and I both almost bawled right in front of all those people.
The STARS teacher explained how the program works. After this, we discussed when would be the best time to start, and we all agreed that, under the current circumstances, tomorrow would be good! They got everything filled out and tomorrow morning at 8:00am, we will meet that teacher at the new school, where he will take us in, show us the STARS room, and get her started.
We are so relieved. We feel strongly that this will have a great impact on some of the anxiety issues we have been experiencing.
Great news. We are very excited.
I'll keep you posted.
TTFN, y'all!
