We had a great time last night. Today is Rache's (ghostiness) birthday, and we took her and Lindsey (linzmat) out for dinner at Zio's (try the Pepperoni Chicken...). We also revealed the big secret that we have been keeping for months; we are taking Rachel to a "flashback weekend" Buffy Fan Event in Chicago on the weekend of May 9. The guest of honor will be James Marsters (Spike) and his rock band, "Ghost of the Robot," will be playing. There will be autograph sessions and a reception with Q&A on Friday night. We also are guaranteed seats in the first 12 rows for the concert. Also appearing at the event will be Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), George Hertzberg (Adam), Mark Metcalf (The Master). Sounds like fun, plus I have never been to Chicago before.

Today, we have a carnival to attend with Stephanie to "kickoff" the kickball season. This is her first venture into organized sports. I use the word organized loosely after attending several of the practices.

"If the spiritual bloom of our life with God is getting impaired in the tiniest degree, we must leave off everything and get it put right. If we are going to retain personal contact with the Lord Jesus Christ, it will mean that there are some things we must scorn to do or to think, some legitimate things we must scorn to touch. Jesus rarely comes where we expect Him; He appears where we least expect Him, and always in the most illogical connections. Trust no one, not even the finest saint who ever walked this earth, ignore him, if he hinders your sight of Jesus Christ."

Romans 13 is reminding me of my responsibility to be a "good citizen." It is our duty to support the authorities. All authority has been place by God. All of it. This is scary, if you follow that thought to its logical end. This means that even Saddam Hussein has been put in place by God. I don't know a whole lot of people who can handle that concept. At any rate, we should have nothing to fear from our government, unless we are trying to get away with something. As far as the Law goes, it is summed up in this: Love your neighbor as yourself. That's pretty much it. Augustine put it this way..."Love God, and do as you please." Lest that be understood, understand it this way...when your vertical relationship with God is right, then your horizontal relationships will be right.
