A Great Short Story Book and the Answer to the Bible Quiz (November 30, 2007 - 5:14 p.m.)

Today, I'm going to post the answer to the Bible quiz. See last entry if you didn't get to see that.

But first, two things...

I just finished one of the best short story books I've ever read. It's called 20th Century Ghosts, by Joe Hill. I can't say that I've ever heard of him before, but it was in the new book section at our local library and had an introduction by Christopher Golden, who has co-written several books with Amber Benson, who played Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (This is starting to sound like Six Degrees...) Anyway...like I said...one of the best short story books I've ever read. Some of the stories are downright creepy (which I love, of course). One in particular, called "The Cape," looks like it's turning into a sweet love story, then takes a most disturbing turn. The title story, "20th Century Ghost," is a rather charming love story involving a ghost in a movie theater. Anyway...if you like this type of book, I highly recommend it.

Second, I am now the proud owner of a 2007 World Series game program (actually obtained at Fenway Park during a WS game!), a 2007 WS pennant, and a 2007 WS cap.

WOOHOO!!!!

My wife knows and works with someone who lives in Boston and actually scored tickets for two of the games, one at Fenway and one in Colorado. He, too, is a Red Sox fan. He gave me those items.

Ok...now for the answers to the Bible quiz. Remember, there were 30 books. I will once again quote the paragraph in its entirety, with the answers in bold print.

This is [a mos]t re[mark]able puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket, on a flight from Los Angeles to Honolu[lu, ke]eping him occupied for hours. He enjoyed it so much, he passed it on to some friends. One friend from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his [john] boat. Another friend studied it while playing his ban[jo. El]aine Taylor, a columnist friend, was so intrigued by it she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend [judges] the [job] of solving this puzzle so involving, s[he brews] a cup of tea to help her nerv[es. Ther]e will be some names that are really easy to spot. That's a f[act. S]ome people, however, will soon find themselves in a [jam, es]pecially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. T[ruth]fully, f[rom ans]wers we get, we are forced to admi[t it us]ually takes a minister or a scholar to see some of the[m at the w]orst. Research has shown that something in our [genes is] responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in this paragraph. During a recent fund raising event, which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta [Phi lemon]ade booth set a new record. The local paper, The [Chronicle, s]urveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As [Daniel] Huma[na hum]bly puts it, "The books are all right here in plain view hidden from sight." T[hose a]ble to find all of them will hear great [lamentations] from those who have to be shown. One [revelation] that may help is that books like [Timothy] and [Samuel] may occur without their [numbers]. Also, keep in mind, that punctuation and spaces in the middle are nor[mal. A chi]pper attitude will help you com[pete r]eally well against those who claim to know the answers. Remember, there is no need for a mad [exodus], there really are 30 books of the Bible lur[king s]omewhere in this paragraph waiting to be found.

Here is a list of the books in the order I found them.

Amos, Mark, Luke, John, Joel, Judges, Job, Hebrews, Esther, Acts, James, Ruth, Romans, Titus (the last and hardest one for me to find), Matthew, Genesis, Philemon, Chronicles, Daniel, Nahum, Hosea, Lamentations, Revelation, Timothy, Samuel, Numbers, Malachi, Peter, Exodus, and Kings.

Oh, and one more thing...the nespaper hasn't printed the answer yet. That comes in tomorrow's paper.

TTFN, y'all!
