Emmys Miss the Mark. Emmys Miss the Entire Target! (September 22, 2008 - 4:48 p.m.)

The Emmy Awards proceeded last night to completely prove their irrelevance in our entertainment industry.

I did not watch the show, because I generally make it a practice NOT to watch industry award shows, because they are usually horrible. And, judging from the various reviews that I saw, this one was no exception.

Apparently, the hosts of the show were several "reality TV" hosts that had, literally, no script and nothing to say. Woo hoo.

Worse, though, is the list of winners. I checked out the list last night, while I was at work, on Yahoo. Yahoo also provided me with the results of their viewer poll.

With the exception of three or four categories, almost every Emmy winner had the LOWEST amount of viewer votes. LOWEST!! Time after time, the most popular shows/actors/actresses were snubbed. This, to me, is the ultimate in industry self-gratification.

Some examples:

Best Drama Show: Mad Men (I've barely heard of this one) got 5% of the viewer vote. House got 52%.

Best Comedy: 30 Rock--got 11% viewer vote. Two and A Half Men got 45%.

Best Drama Actor: Bryan Cranston (WHO???) from Breaking Bad--got 2% viewer vote. Hugh Laurie got 65%.

Best Drama Actress: Glenn Close (I didn't even know she was doing TV)--got 8% viewer vote. Mariska Hargitay (I haven't heard of her either) got 39%.

This just goes on and on with the few exceptions being Paul Giamatti for his work in John Adams, Laura Linney for her work in John Adams, John Adams for best miniseries (apparently, the Emmy People liked John Adams), best made for TV movie (Recount), and best drama directing for an episode of House.

The ultimate in absurdity is that they gave an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety, Music, or Comedy Program to....ready for this?

THE ACADEMY AWARDS!!

THEY GAVE AN EMMY TO THE OSCARS????

Holy CRAP!

It's official. The industry has lost it's marbles.

This is proof that the industry really cares nothing for what the "people" think. Hollywood has become as self-serving as Washington DC. And, frankly, I find it disgusting.

Almost as disgusting as Alec Baldwin.

TTFN, y'all!
