TNT produced a new version of Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot in miniseries this week.
Rachel and I taped each night and watched it on the following mornings.
It is yet another classic case of "What Book Did They Read???"
Rachel was right. It was annoying!
If one had not read the book before seeing this, it probably would have been ok. It was not a bad production. Donald Sutherland and Rutger Hauer are both so very good at playing evil characters.
BUT...oh, I do not have time to point out all of the glaring inconsistencies. But I'm sure Rachel will. She has lots more time.
For one then, the beginning fight between Ben Mears and Father Callahan NEVER happened. So the story begins on a bad note. And it goes downhill from there.
Sometimes I wonder why people even try to make Stephen King books into movies. The worst ever, of course, was Stanley Kubrick's total anihilation of "The Shining."
There were two interesting "shout-outs" in this production, though. First, there is a bar or restaurant Kaoroke (how the heck do you spell that??) scene and the guy is singing "Stand By Me." If you don't get that you aren't a Stephen King fan. Later, the police dog was named Cujo. Hahah....ditto, if you don't understand.
Tomorrow I will address the insanity that is the Atkins Diet.
